The Location
Serre Chevalier, France (1100m to 2200m)
Located in the Southern Alps of France, Serre-Chevalier is the second largest ski area in the world and a true paradise for sports lovers during summers and winters with 115 runs adding up to an incredible 250kms of ski slopes. The vast area is serviced by 68 lifts. Ski altitude is between 1,200m and 2,830m, with skiing suitable for all levels, especially the beginner and intermediate. In addition, there are 35kms of superb cross-country trails throughout the area, as well as some great off-piste for snowboarders. Serre-Chevalier benefits from an exceptional environment listed by Unesco as World Heritage, and despite being one of the most northern points of the Provence Cote d'Azur region, the area benefits from a true Mediterranean Alpine climate with over 300 days of sunshine every year. Serre-Chevalier has spectacular mountain scenery and beautiful runs through France's biggest larch forest. The resort with 13 villages is spread over 4 areas: Briancon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve la Salle and le Monetier les Bains, at the gates of the Ecrins National Park. All these beautiful villages are all linked into the local ski area.

Local food and gastronomy:
Meat and cheese feature heavily in Alpine cuisine, with produce including Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage, Petafine, fish (trout) and dishes such as petafine, bleu du vercors, nuts, chartreuse (alcohol) and sausages. Typical dishes are raclette (melted cheese served with charcuterie), fondue (melted cheese) tartiflette (a gratin with potatoes and Reblochon cheese), and rissoles (pear pasty)..
Access
Serre-Chevalier is located in the southern part of the Alps, close to the Parc National des Ecrins, in the Hautes-Alpes department of the French Alps. 3h from Lyon, 2h from Grenoble, 3h from Marseille, 85min from Turin, 15min from Briancon.
By car: from Paris the journey should take just over six hours, with a distance of 637kms.
By train: by the Eurostar it only takes two and a half hour from London to get to the centre of Paris. There are regular trains from Paris to Briancon. There are regular bus services from the station to the resort. High speed TGV trains also run from Paris to Oulx (Italy) with a transfer by coach to the resort (the journey time is approx 5h).
By plane: Low cost flights are available from England to Turin with airports transfers straight to the resort. The Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport is 40 minutes from Ennery. There are also low cost flight to Grenoble, Lyon and Marseille with a 2 to 3h transfer to the resort.
