Paris: Skyscrapers planned after ban overturned

High rise buildings have been banned in the City of Light since Jacques Chirac was Mayor in 1977. Now, the sky will be lit up by new skyscrapers after Parisian officials gave the green light for high rise construction...

Paris's famous skyline is set for a makeover. In a total turnaround in planning laws, high rise buildings are back. Except for the Eiffel Tower and one 59 storey office building, there are currently few buildings taller than 12 stories.

When Jacques Chirac was Mayor of Paris, he limited new buildings to a height of 37 metres. Fast forward 31 years and a shortage of housing and office space - which is the main reason why prices have not dropped significantly - has led to the ruling being overturned.
